A Powerful and Unforgettable Service

On Sunday, the 19th of October 2025, Bishop Afonso and Pastor Elizabeth from The Good Samaritan Social Centre led a deeply moving and Spirit-filled service that not only inspired but also brought revelation and renewed faith to everyone present. We were truly honoured by the presence of distinguished guests, including Dr. Beto (FOSCAP – Federação das Associações Angolanas em Portugal), Rev. Barros (Inter-Church Commission), Dr. Phil Williams (Christ Church Redditch), Rev. Dr. Warton Hertz (Ajuda Barnabé), and Elder Andrea Mortimer (Mortimer Kitchen). The atmosphere was charged with worship, testimonies, and a profound sense of unity in mission and purpose.

A Growing International Partnership

This service brought together representatives from three nations: Angola, England, and Portugal, united by a shared heart for faith and service. Through our long-standing connection with Barnabas Aid in the UK, we are now forming a further partnership with the newly founded branch Ajuda Barnabé in Portugal, headed by Rev. Dr. Warton Hertz. This relationship signifies an important step in strengthening global efforts to support the persecuted church and humanitarian missions.

Testimonies and Transformations

Young members of the church shared powerful testimonies of God’s faithfulness, stories of divine rescue, stepping into new nations to serve the Lord, and even finding lifelong partners through God’s guidance. Each story served as a reminder that God continues to work wonders in the lives of those who trust Him.

Honouring Partnerships

The Angolan government was warmly welcomed and honoured for its willingness to collaborate with The Good Samaritan Social Centre and Ajuda Barnabé. This partnership holds great promise for expanding the reach of compassion and aid to those in need.

A Word in Season

Dr. Phil Williams delivered a stirring message on seasons, reminding us that every believer journeys through times of change and challenge. Yet, through every storm, God remains sovereign, bringing transformation and purpose out of every circumstance. His message deeply resonated, reminding us that our faith is refined in transition.

A Call to Action for the Persecuted Church

The second part of the service focused on the vital work of Ajuda Barnabé. We learned that in 2025, over 300 million Christians face persecution worldwide. In nations such as Nigeria, violent extremism has led to the destruction of villages and the loss of countless lives. Though heartbreaking, this truth ignited a renewed passion in us to stand with those suffering for their faith. Rev. Dr. Warton Hertz shared that while Ajuda Barnabé primarily supports persecuted Christians, their outreach also extends to communities affected by natural disasters and humanitarian crises. He reminded us that we can all take part, through prayer, speaking out, and giving, but above all, through prayer, which remains the foundation of all action.

Honouring Legacy and Vision

As the service drew to a close, Pastor Elizabeth introduced Elder Andrea Mortimer, honouring her and her late husband for their faithful work. To her delight, she was informed that Mortimer Kitchen had even begun operating in Angola, an inspiring testament to how one act of faith can ripple across nations.

A Global Movement Begins

This unforgettable service was more than an event; it marked the beginning of a divine partnership that we believe will make a lasting impact not only in Portugal but across the nations. God is moving mightily, and we are all invited to be part of His great mission. To God be the glory for what He has done, and for what He is yet to do!
